Creative & Cultural Skills Awards 2015: Celebrating unsung heroes across the sector

Nominations for the Creative & Cultural Skills Awards are now open. Celebrate exemplary individuals, organisations, apprentices and interns in the creative and cultural industries.

The Creative & Cultural Skills Awards recognise those who have demonstrated a commitment to passing on skills and improving routes into work for young people.

Deadline for all nominations is 5pm on the 19th December 2014.

Awards will be made in the following categories:

  • The Music Skills Award
  • The Craft Skills Award
  • The Jewellery Skills Award
  • The Cultural Heritage Skills Award
  • The Theatre Skills Award
  • The Training Provider of the Year Award

The Luigi Micheletti Award

The Luigi Micheletti Award is focused on contemporary history and its scientific heritage, industrial and social development. This Award was established in 1996 by the Micheletti Foundation of Brescia and a leading expert on industrial archeology and museology Kenneth Hudson, for the recognition of excellence in the specific field of science and industry museums in Europe. They can participate in science museums, technical and industrial applications. Today’s Prize is open to history museums in the 20th century (social, political, military) to reflect the broader scope of activities of the Micheletti Foundation and is managed jointly by the Foundation and by the European Museum Academy .

ICE

Students taking a course that could lead to Technician Membership of ICE could apply for a QUEST Technician Scholarship.

QUEST offers scholarships worth £1,500 to students in further education (FE) studying for a civil engineering qualification which could lead to Technician Membership (TMICE) of ICE.

QUEST scholarships are associated with excellence and as well as receiving financial support of up to £1,500, successful scholars gain recognition of their abilities and potential from a highly respected international organisation, an achievement which looks great on a CV.

Georgian Group Architectural Awards

Entries are invited for the twelfth annual Georgian Group Architectural Awards, sponsored by Savills.

These unique awards, covering the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, recognise excellence in the restoration of Georgian buildings. Awards are also given to the best new Classical building and to the best new building in a Georgian context.

The Canal & River Trust

The Canal & River Trust is the charity that cares for England and Wales’ legacy of 200-year-old waterways, holding them in trust for the nation forever.

The Trust is among the UK’s biggest charities, with responsibility for 2,000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs, along with museums, archives and the country’s third largest collection of protected historic buildings.

As part of our commitment to the long-term maintenance and restoration of the waterways, we are looking to recruit 14 Waterways Heritage Trainees to be based around the country.

Volunteers sought

Sarahjayne Clements, the Royal Commission’s CBA Community Archaeologist, is looking for volunteers to interview for an oral histories project she is running in Swansea with the Young Archaeologist Club. They would like to record memories of the city and scan any old photographs that you might have. They are also interested in any First World War memories, photographs and memorabilia that you may have.

Birmingham Conservation Trust – After over a decade of fundraising and a year of refurbishment, Birmingham Conservation Trust are delighted to be opening to the public the Newman Brothers factory at the Coffin Works, Jewellery Quarter, from late October 2014. This fantastic grade II* listed factory which made coffin furniture for over 100 years, will offer visitors the extraordinary opportunity to ‘step back in time’ and experience the factory as a ‘time-capsule’, set in the 1960s; full of original stock and machinery and with many a tale to tell!

Skills for the Future Internship

This exciting opportunity funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Skills for the Future programme and West Dunbartonshire Council allows two successful applicants to gain a professionally recognised heritage qualification whilst undertaking paid work. PhD studentships

English Heritage and its University partners are currently recruiting for 3 collaborative PhD studentships, funded by the AHRC through the Collaborative Doctoral Partnerships (CDP) scheme; to commence in October 2014.

These studentships are fully funded by the AHRC and will be jointly supervised by a University supervisor and an English Heritage supervisor.

 
The 3 studentships currently available are:
 
  • Ploughzone archaeology: interpreting loss of data from metal artefact decay (rates, reasons and conservation management implications)
  • Westminster on Sea: the political and cultural significance of Osborne House, Isle of Wight
  • English Office Buildings c.1900 – 1939

British Council

The British Council, through its Connections through Culture programme in India, is offering travel grants for non-national museums to travel to India. The aim of the scheme is to enable UK non-national museums to build and develop institutional links, to share skills and to create joint projects or exhibitions with museums in India. Each grant is sufficient to cover the total cost of a week-long visit to India. The grant scheme is open to all non-national museums in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
