The Archbishops of Canterbury and York in consultation with the Appointments Committee of the Church of England wish to appoint a new Chair of the Church Buildings Council to succeed Mrs Anne Sloman OBE, who is standing down at the end of September 2014.
These studentships are fully funded by the AHRC and will be jointly supervised by a University supervisor and an English Heritage supervisor.
The British Council, through its Connections through Culture programme in India, is offering travel grants for non-national museums to travel to India. The aim of the scheme is to enable UK non-national museums to build and develop institutional links, to share skills and to create joint projects or exhibitions with museums in India. Each grant is sufficient to cover the total cost of a week-long visit to India. The grant scheme is open to all non-national museums in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Parks & Gardens UK is the leading on-line resource for historic parks and gardens providing freely accessible, accurate and inspiring information on UK parks, gardens and designed landscapes and all activities concerned with their promotion, conservation and management.
It is looking for someone with accounting experience to manage the finances of the Parks & Gardens UK charity. This voluntary role will require approximately 1-2 days of work per month and includes overseeing incoming and outgoing payments, managing bank accounts and coordinating filing accounts annually.

This internship is hosted by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS), supported by the Trust’s Bute Memorial Fund and managed in partnership with Icon.
The Bute/Icon internship is an exceptional opportunity and offers a unique experience of caring for collections in their context; and of project planning, management, and delivery. The intern will work with Icon accredited NTS conservators to advise on the care and protection of historic interior surfaces and collections and will liaise with property staff and heritage volunteers as well as other specialist advisers within the Trust
The Bute/Icon intern will be a member of the Trust’s Collections Conservation Service www.nts.org.uk and will be based at the Trust’s Head Office in Edinburgh. From here, they will take part in conservation projects and activities throughout the Trust according to a mutually agreed workplan, drawn up to make the most of the learning opportunities on offer. Overnight stays in various parts of Scotland should be anticipated, and will be funded separately by the Trust. A full driving licence and vehicle are therefore desirable.
12 months Internship, October 2014 – September 2015.

Historic Royal Palaces & ICON supported by the Clothworkers’ Foundation, is offering a programme of Textile Conservation internships .
This is the fifth placement in the scheme, due to start in October 2014. The placement also benefits from a small London allowance as well as a training-study supplement.
Based at Hampton Court Palace, the Intern will obtain critical insights and hone their skills as they work alongside some of the country’s leading textile conservation specialists in HRP’s state-of-the-art textile treatment studio. In this unique environment, the Intern will gain experience in textiles treatment conservation, working alongside preventive conservation, as well as the business disciplines common to a conservation studio. HRP also recognises and develops the effective communication skills necessary for today’s conservation specialist.

Two full-time PhD studentships jointly funded by the WSA and EPSRC will be awarded in two of six areas:
ICE Yorkshire and Humber are seeking a new voluntary regional representative on the Panel for Historical Engineering Works (PHEW).
The role involves visiting regional sites, recording/checking details and submitting reports to the archives section in London. In Yorkshire and Humber there are just over 200 recorded Historical Engineering Works (HEWs), and the representative would continue to update the information on these, as well as identifying additional works that are worth recording.
Awards Travelling Fellowships to British citizens from all walks of life to travel overseas, to bring back knowledge and best practice for the benefit of others in their UK professions and communities.
Fellows receive a travel grant to cover return and internal travelling, daily living and insurance within the countries visited.

Nka Foundation invites entries for Mud House Design 2014, an international architecture competition open to recent graduates and students of architecture, design and others from around the world who think earth architecture can be beautiful.
The challenge is to design a single-family unit of about 30 x 40 feet on a plot of 60 x 60 feet to be built by maximum use of earth and local labor in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The client of your design is the middle-income family in any township of your choice in the Ashanti Region. Total costs of constructing the design entry must not exceed $6,000; land value is excluded from this price point. The entry should serve as an example to the local people that mud architecture can be beautiful and durable.
Registration and submission of entries run from March 15, 2014 until August 31, 2014.
We have been working in partnership with the Design Council over the past two years to demonstrate the key role design plays in creating economic benefits and social value in the UK, and to explore design research in UK universities and its connections with businesses and policymakers. We now wish to test some of these ideas in a study which will examine how businesses and public sector organisations in a particular location use design in their work, and what the impact of this is on their ability to innovate and their economic performance.
