PURPOSE: The Château de Chambord welcomes each year an artist/architect in residence in the Château for a 3-month period in the Fall. The Château is looking to welcome an architect wishing to pursue a personal research ideally linked to heritage, education and historic architecture in France. In addition to time allocated for personal research, the successful candidate will be asked to work on an architectural project on the theme: “Chambord – 500 years after”, contributing their ideas to a virtual architectural project.

QUALIFICATIONS: student in Master / PhD or post-doc in Architecture

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Good working knowledge of French (B1 level)

DATES: October to December 2018 (12weeks)

RESIDENCY LOCATION: Château de Chambord, 41250 Chambord

HOUSING: Housing possibilities are available on site, to be organized directly with the Château*. The Château de Chambord is quite isolated and surrounded by a vast forest. It is strongly advised for the architect to be comfortable in an isolated setting and to have a good command of French. The architects will be expected to work on his own on his personal project. The cultural team of the Château is present throughout the duration of the residency to support the student. Having an international driver’s license is strongly advised as well as ability to drive a manual car in order to enjoy autonomous discovery of the Loire Valley. The culmination of this residency will be a presentation to our association’s Young Friends Circle during a cultural cocktail in Paris.

STIPEND: $5000

VISA: no visa – valid American passport

MEALS: not included

INSURANCE: Medical insurance and civil liability provided by the student
